Project Description

QUEENSLAND HEALTH

As subconsultants to BoardConnect, Positive Solutions assisted with the design and delivery of a transition strategy to assist 20 Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) following recent health reforms and associated changes in funding and contracting arrangements. David Fishel led a team which included Cathy See, McCullough Robertson Lawyers, and consultants specialising in the non-profit sector. The group included the Lung Foundation, Hepatitis Queensland, Muscular Dystrophy Association of Queensland Inc, Better Hearing Australia Brisbane, and others. The planning and delivery/ support phases of this significant project called for an understanding of the health reform context within which the project is occurring, and a well-orchestrated suite of competencies, including financial, HR, legal, governance, business development, fundraising and financing, amongst others.

Due to the success of initial phase of the project (2014-2015), funding has been extended until the end of 2017. Transition Plans developed by the organisations were be revisited, and consultants continued to work with the NGOs to implement those plans, and support them through the provision of training. Workshop topics are planned to include:

  • Trends in the sector
  • Alliances and collaborations
  • Outcome measurement for non-profit organisations
  • Emerging income streams, income diversification
  • Impact investing
  • Fundraising
  • Speed Mentoring
  • Board development

Following the successful delivery of this four-year program, Positive Solutions and BoardConnect were engaged again by Queensland Health to support six Palliative Care NGOs with strategic policy planning and board development during 2018-19. This project included identifying critical areas for improvement and maximising the strategic clarity of each organisation. We worked to strengthen this cohort by providing advice and support with strategic planning, organisational development, legal and regulatory compliance, fundraising and philanthropy, as well as facilitating a monthly program of workshops and activities for board members and senior staff.
