BoardConnect, Queensland’s
dedicated service for the boards of arts, cultural and other non-profit
organisations, began as an initiative of Positive Solutions.
It
was developed in response to a perception that boards of non-profit
organisations have a need for ongoing advice, support and
skill-development. Initially focused on the needs of arts and cultural
organisations, its services now extend both into the broader non-profit
sector and beyond the state borders. It has been a fully independent
company limited by guarantee since late 2010.
The first ongoing governance support service available to the arts sector, BoardConnect assists board members and managers of arts and non profit organisations. Advice and information to encourage best practice in governance is provided via a confidential help-line, regular events, tailored services, and online resources.
Board
and Committee members are asked to take on a big responsibility. They
do it because of their interest in the arts or community activity, and
because they believe it will be a rewarding and stimulating experience.
But their arrival in the boardroom can throw up many questions. Even
for seasoned board members, the details of the role can be far from
clear.
“What are my responsibilities? How will I make a real
difference for the organisation? How will I know if I am being
effective?”
BoardConnect seeks to address these questions by providing accessible, proactive support.
