Quick Start Loan Fund

The Quick Start Loan Fund is an interest free loan fund for Queensland artists, cultural organisations and creative businesses. It was launched in 2001 initially as a two year pilot project instigated and resourced by Positive Solutions Directors Cathy Hunt and David Fishel, in association with arts accountant Brian Tucker.

Loans of between $500 and $5,000 are available, re-payable within 12 months. A small fee has been charged to recipients of loans as a contribution to administration costs. The nature of projects supported has included:

  • Creative Product development
  • Purchase of equipment or materials to support a new client order
  • Research and development phase of a project before a confirmed grant or commission finance can be accessed
  • Professional development opportunities such as international residencies
  • Marketing and promotional tools to assist new initiatives such as the production of CD’s by musicians.

Quick Start is a mutual rolling Fund. As loans are repaid further resources are released from the Fund to new applicants. With no direct promotion and a reliance on word of mouth within the sector, over $60,000 of loans has been provided to 30 individuals and organisations over the past five years.

Successful applicants have included individual artists, community arts organisations and small creative businesses.
