BEST PRACTICE GOVERNANCE FOR IRRIGATION PEAK BODY

> THE CONTEXT

The NSW Irrigators Council (NSWIC) had recently completed an audit of the organisation’s membership and structure and through this process identified the need for a full governance review including board processes, policies and accompanying documentation. In undertaking an external review the Council wished to ensure the organisation was working in line with best practice in governance and board processes.

> THE BRIEF

Positive Solutions was engaged to provide advice on board performance and governance arrangements in a ‘Governance Health Check’. This was to ensure that the NSWIC’s current Governance framework was fit for purpose, met compliance obligations, and the board was able and readied to assess and manage risks within operations.

> OUR APPROACH

Positive Solutions consulted with the Governance Committee of the board, and then undertook a review of existing documentation, board member interviews, and provided a status report on the organisation’s governance processes along with a list of recommendations for implementation. A debrief was held with the Chair and Governance Committee.

> THE RESULTS

A findings report and scheduled action plan was generated for board consideration and adopted for implementation.
